Who am I?
Your private lesson instructor is me, Kimberly Peterson - founder of Citizen Workshops. I’m a singer who took the scary leap into the world of songwriting and I’m so glad I did. After completing my Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance at the University of Southern California, where I studied opera, jazz, musical theater, studio singing, and any other genre I could get my hands on, I moved to New York. I realized rather quickly that the world of auditioning did not fit. I wondered about the possibility of writing my own music as a way to take charge of my career, but I figured that if I were destined to write music, I would have been born with symphonies bouncing around in my head. Then (with very little confidence) I just delved in. I wrote my first songs, worked with a songwriting coach, independently released my own album (“Growing Up”), and wrote a one-woman musical (“A Woman Grows in Brooklyn,” which was nominated for a Bay Area Critics Circle Award). I would be thrilled to work with you as a voice or songwriting coach, and with the ease of technology - we can work together anywhere via phone, Skype, or Google Hangout.
