In preparation for Citizen Talks next week, we'll be spotlighting fabulous speakers who will be sharing their expertise. Matt Fazekas, a guitar player and singer/songwriter, has also completed extensive training on building electric and acoustic guitars from scratch. Come see his gorgeous finished instruments (handmade with blood sweat and tears!), and learn about basic guitar maintenance that you can do from the comfort of your own home. See you at Citizen Talks - next Wednesday, August 5 from 6:30-8:30pm at NoHo PAC (11020 Magnolia Blvd. in North Hollywood)!
Happy Wednesday Song Day! With these hot North Hollywood days (and the slightly less-hot North Hollywood nights), I keep thinking of this song from George and Ira Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. Enjoy with a cold glass of lemonade! This week's Wednesday song is slightly cheating (rules were made to be broken, right?!), but I had to feature the hilarious Key & Peele and their amazing Pirate Chantey. Enjoy, and see you tonight at Team Citizen Workshops! 6:30-8:30pm at NoHo PAC! Happy Wednesday Song Day! This is a favorite song of Brandon's - "Let's Do It, Let's Fall in Love" by Cole Porter. Cole Porter is a wizard with rhyming, and this song is a perfect example. Enjoy, and see if you can make some Cole Porter rhymes of your own today! And see you a week from tonight (July 22 at 6:30pm) for Team Citizen Workshops in North Hollywood! Click here for more details in our newsletter, and email us (info@citizenworkshops.com) to RSVP. Thanks to everyone who made it out to for our Team Citizen Workshops Launch Party! It was fantastic to see so many diverse creative people in the same room - a wonderful start to Citizen Workshops.
Save the Dates for our upcoming Team Citizen Workshops meetings, every other Wednesday in July and August: July 22, August 5, and August 19 from 6:30-8:30pm at NoHo PAC (11020 Magnolia Blvd. in North Hollywood). Team Citizen Workshops, our brand new community-building artist support group, will be completely free in July and August, so bring friends! Come to meet, mingle, discuss, make friends, laugh, vent, and get support for your artistic and creative goals. Email us (info@citizenworkshops.com) to find out more or RSVP. Happy Wednesday Song Day! And Happy Launch Party Day! I was up in the wee hours last night, my mind racing about our first in-person event and thinking "OMG this is scary. Why did I sign up to do something so scary?!" But I think that's normal with taking risks and starting new chapters, so...carpe diem! Valhalla! Here we go! This week's Wednesday Song is a collaboration with our awesome neighbor and friend Matt Fazekas (who builds his own guitars from scratch!) and his partner in crime/fiancé Allie Beauchesne (awesome photographer/blogger/design guru) who recorded us on her Canon camera. And thank you, as always, to Brandon for providing unending support and capturing moments on your iPhone! The song, "Two of Us," is a Beatles song that was covered by Aimee Mann and Michael Penn in the movie I Am Sam. Enjoy, and Happy Wednesday Song Day! In honor of the 4th of July, here's a favorite country ditty of mine! Although I'm a vegetarian who grew up in Los Angeles (not underneath the shade of a Georgia pine, although that sounds amazing), I still love me some country songs. Happy Independence Day, 'Merica! ALSO - it's one week until our Citizen Workshops Launch Party! See you there! |
