In his book "Show Your Work," Austin Kleon encourages everyone to share their processes with the world: "think process, not product." Here is a current checklist I'm working on for Citizen Workshops, including sections on website, social media, design, class curriculum, mailing list, money, and legal (with a few logo sketches that you can faintly see on the next page). It will continue to evolve, but it's good to have some jumping off points.
This article talks about how every kindergardener raises his/her hand when asked, "who here is an artist?" By 6th grade, only 2 or 3 students raise their hands when asked the same question. We are all born artists, but as we get older, we make a decision whether or not to stay artists. The author suggests this mantra: "I'm not gonna be perfect, but I'm gonna try stuff." Amen. (Thanks to my brother Kent for sending this article - here's to all of us raising our hands!)
